Psychosocial and School Health Services

Psychosocial services

Our school social workers help youth who are having personal, family or social difficulties. They offer consultation services to students, teachers, and other school personnel.

  • They work to detect problems which have an effect on a student’s behaviour and their academic achievement : stress, suicidal ideas, solitude, violence in the family or aggressive behaviour among youth;
  • They offer group interventions and collective activities which develop the personal and social skills of young people, such as conflict resolution, self-esteem, communication and mutual support.

Health services

  • School nurses offer consultation services and collaborate in the organization of first aid services:
    • Vaccines (measles and chickenpox) for children in kindergarten
    • Vaccines against hepatitis B for students in grade 4
    • Booster doses for diphtheria – tetanus for secondary 3 students
  •  They work to prevent diseases such as sexually transmitted and blood borne infections (STBIs) and AIDS.
  • In primary schools, they respond to needs identified by school administrators and act as resource persons for educational and prevention activities.
  • In secondary schools, they offer consultations to youth and collaborate in the creation of support and mutual support groups.
