CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest announces the opening of a COVID-19 unit at Hotel Plaza Valleyfield

CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest

Châteauguay, April 16, 2020 — The Centre intégré de Santé et de Services sociaux (CISSS) de la Montérégie-Ouest is announcing the opening of a COVID-19 unit in an unconventional location, namely the Hotel Plaza Valleyfield, in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.

Two floors in the hotel have been completely closed to set up the hot zone. This unit, which will begin treating patients in the next few days, will include 20 beds dedicated to confirmed cases exhibiting mild-to-moderate symptoms.

While containment zones were set up in the CHSLDs to group positive cases together and limit the spread of the virus within the facility, this measure was simply impossible in some private seniors’ residences. This COVID-19 unit will therefore take in residents from private seniors’ residences throughout Montérégie-Ouest who have tested positive.

Admission criteria have been identified and referral mechanisms put in place. Employees from the CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest will be transferred to the new unit to care for the residents. In the event a resident’s health condition worsens, they will be transferred to a designated hospital for treatment.

“In these unprecedented times, we need to be creative and think outside the box for the good of our fellow citizens. I’m very proud of this partnership with the Hotel Plaza and of how efficiently our teams from the CISSS, the local doctors, and the hotel staff worked together to open this unconventional COVID-19 unit in just a few days, while complying with all infection control measures,” said Yves Masse, President and CEO of the CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest.
