La Montérégie is a territory of more than 10,000 km2 characterized by contact of urban, semi-rural and rural zones. The region served by the Agence extends from Valleyfield to Sorel, from west to east, from Longueuil to the American border, from north to south, and from Longueuil to Eastman towards the south-east. It also includes Île Perrot as well as the sector which goes from Vaudreuil to the Ontario border.
In 2007, the population of the Montérégie had risen to close to 1 371 000 people.
It counts 179 municipalities, 14 county regional municipalities (MRC), one territory which is the equivalent of a MRC, for the municipality of Longueuil, and 2 Indian reserves : Akwesasne et Kahnawake.
