Private seniors’ residence

A private seniors’ residence is a place that offers a relatively wide range of services such as meals, nursing care, personal assistance, domestic help, security and supervision. These residences are owned and managed by entirely private interests.

For more information about private seniors’ residences in the Montérégie, consult the Registre des résidences privées pour aînés (Registry of private seniors’ residences) on the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec website.

For information on the procedures to follow for the opening of a new private seniors' residence, you can contact the resource team in your area

Certification

In accordance with the Act respecting health services and social services, each private residence must obtain a certificate of compliance, a document guaranteeing that the residence meets certain service quality and safety requirements.

The certification process is based on criteria that relate to the facilities and to access to high-quality health and social services. It also ensures that certain fundamental values are upheld, such as courtesy, equality, understanding, and respect for the dignity and autonomy of individuals.

Complaints and service improvements

If you are dissatisfied with the quality of services received at a private seniors’ residence or if you believe your rights have not been respected, we encourage you to visit the page of the Service Quality and Complaints Commissioner for your region to find out how to file a complaint.
